As some of you may already have heard from Ruth's LJ, her mother has just been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
It is not malignant. We know this because it is very large, and if it were malignant it would have been noticed long before it could get to be this size. It is also not in her frontal lobes; it was noticed because she was having inexplicable movement difficulties and so was sent in for an MRI.
But it's still a ^*()&*! brain tumor.
We are going to Wisconsin next Wednesday and returning on Sunday; I may well be inaccessible during that time period. Surgery scheduled for Thursday. There is a 95% chance of everything being just fine. Funny how small 95% seems when you're worried.
Right. Time to mercilessly accentuate the positive:
--
irene_adler is here visiting, and possibly apartment-looking, which is very, very happy
-- And she brought the amazing gorgeous fluffy soft afghan that
goat_girl crocheted for our wedding present and it's all fluffy and thank you yay
-- The mail has produced a box from
rachelmanija which has the bestest soap in the world and a really cuddly Gaara plushie and a Naruto pencil case which is the perfect size to put all the BPAL stuff in and thank you yay purr
-- Ruth ordered a leather/poly-centered etiquette book off Amazon because she'd heard Donna Barr had done the illustrations, and it turned out to not only be a funny book with great illustrations but to have a back-cover blurb by Ruth's really nifty third cousin who is a therapist in San Francisco, and no we were not expecting that
-- Rita has been downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane, so I can worry less about
foleyartist1 and Houston in general
-- My hair is freshly blue again and in that neat phase where it is precisely the right color
-- I am married to the most beautiful woman I've ever met, and we have a wonderful, sweet, considerate boyfriend
-- Katamari Damacy is a really fun video game, and there will be going to see The Corpse Bride later on this weekend
Right. That helped. I have some bookblogging to do later on this weekend which should help too, and is all
the_red_shoes's fault for causing me to think some more about C.S. Lewis, which, granted, has been one of my hobbies for years now, but it somehow had not occurred to me that on the Internet, I could make people listen to it. Mwa ha ha.
Dammit, if my mother-in-law dies I'm going to kill her.
