Speaking of your average newspaper, the Philadelphia Weekly News has managed to drive me to despondency by revealing that the Dresden Dolls are having their Valentine's Day show in an accessible location in Philly *three hours after I leave for Katsucon*. I've been looking forward to Katsucon for weeks, but I can't help being intrigued by the very idea of the Dresden Dolls having a Valentine's Day show. That will be... impressive. (If you haven't run across the Dresden Dolls, they're one of in my opinion only two or three actual punk bands operating today, and they live in that place between punk, goth and techno that so few people actually do right. Witty, ironic, hilariously twitchy, good sense of melody... Some of their stuff is up on the web, too. I highly recommend 'Coin-Operated Boy'. If you're female.)(Which, Ruth, you may be interested to know, according to the paper their lead singer *is* actually female and their songwriter/backup musician *isn't*. I had been assuming it was the other way around. Oh, and if the picture is any gauge, they dress as though they are living in a deranged black-and-white outtake of the film version of Cabaret, which is about what I thought. We have *got* to go see these people sometime.)
Have consoled self with the additional knowledge that Wings of Desire is playing in repertory at the Prince Music Theatre next Tuesday, which I can make. And refuse not to. Because that will be so amazing big-screen. And hopefully they won't have the huge staticky bit my video copy has.
This has been a Content? What Content? entry (thank you, Reki) as many of mine have been of late. I seem to be alternating between CWC and Crippling Angst. Neither of which I expect anyone but me to care about. I will try to write about something interesting soonish.
