Well, not quite yet, as they are at present being rendered acceptably genderless. But they are all picked out and will be here Friday. We went to the localish animal shelter, a very efficient and friendly place that is for no apparent reason located in a part of Brooklyn that might reasonably labeled 'Study of Desolation in Concrete, I'. Ruth's aunt was kind enough to drive us, and her cousins came with. It was hard to choose, as they had some lovely cats; I originally was infatuated with an elegant and mannerly Persian lady, but the shelter had her on hold as they thought she might be a lost cat and were looking for the owner. We didn't want to risk it, and we did want kittens, as they are much more likely to actually grow to like their owners.
Also, Ruth doesn't quite comprehend the whole Persian cat squashed-face thing.
So we have two Jellicle cats, a cupped handful apiece, who are curious and adventurous and climbed up our shoulders but also were willing to sit quietly and be petted and who really enjoy people. They are both male, oddly enough, and litter-brothers, so they get along wonderfully. There were two more in the litter, all black-and-white, so we picked the two who seemed to be most friendly and whom we could best tell apart by their markings. (Believe me, with a couple of these kittens it was difficult.) Definitive names have of course not yet arisen, as we have not had adequate time to observe their characters, but at the present Ruth's cousins are telling them apart by calling one of them Sir and one Mister-- and I have no idea how they decided which one ought to be a mere Mister, as they both seem like les parfait gentils cats to me.
Purr. Resoundingly.
