Had a weekend. Yeah.
Jul. 15th, 2003 01:51 pmWell, I much enjoyed my flying visit to Bryn Mawr. There were many, many people. It was fun. Reign seems to have gone over well. I got back to Boston on Monday instead of Sunday as I had intended, but it worked out okay. Saiyuki costuming had progressed unnervingly in my absence. I mean, I was gone portions of four days, and the Kanzeon Bosatsu costume basically materialized. It looks amazing. We have also tried me in my jacket, belt, and giant-ass bow, and have determined that not only can I sit down in it, which had been doubtful, but I can sit down comfortably in it, which was a possibility I had not been allowing myself to hope for. Honestly, the more experience I have with this costume, the more I believe that it was designed by an insane sadist with a breast fetish. There is no other explanation. Especially not for the bits with the chains. Ah well. My sewing is improving. Gojyou and the monkey are being insanely helpful. At the moment, Jyeni's bunny is wearing my bow. We need to take a picture of that.
I also got to come home and watch Samurai Deeper Kyo, which rocks very, very hard. Reminds me of Scryed. It also has the Killer Voice Cast of the Gods. A., you should watch out carefully for this one, cause you know your two anime-related Things-- Seki Toshihiko and Osaka-ben? Guess what. The two have merged. Seki speaking Osaka-ben is *really, really cool*. I loved Samurai Deeper Kyo muchly, and look forward to more of it, despite the fact that Episode 4 has the worst spider-related incident I have ever seen on film. I shrieked and grabbed for Ada, and had to take about fifteen minutes afterward and have hysterics, literally. I'm generally bad at insects and insect-related things, but this was a new low point. I have this recurring dream involving a very, very large spider, and the anime took my dream, duplicated its imagery in every way, and then made it worse. Much worse. Also, I thought the Harry Potter movie had a lot of spiders-- Kyo has more and worse and weirder. Sei, maybe you should just skip Episode 4 entirely. The anime is sufficiently cool to be worth the trauma, but I'm not sure the individual episode is worth it, by itself.
Wedding plans go on apace. I need to get myself in gear to go look at the Unitarian church down the block and if possible attend for a few Sundays so I can see what kind of congregation and minister they have-- that church would be so convenient. We await with bated breath the forthcoming Massachusetts Supreme Court decision regarding the legality of gay marriage (pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease) as it would make all the lawyerish stuff so much simpler. However, I should also start looking up things like name-changing procedures in case the Court rules against it. (I shall hyphenate, and never get another correctly addressed piece of mail as long as I live.)
Off to German.
