Extremely good con; it was I believe the first time I have ever made it to all three days of a three-day convention in which I was not staying in the hotel, which is a pleasing personal record.

I went to a great many panels and I saw a great many people (some of them, sadly, for microseconds). Got a complete Cordwainer Smith at half off and a complete Zenna Henderson People stories at full price. Filled in some holes in my Bruce Coville. Gave a valentine. Got a valentine. Had some remarkably good sushi. Got to see the staging of Jo Walton's Tam Lin, and it was lovely.

And sang in the Sassafrass concert.

We don't have the entire thing on Youtube, but we do have the premieres:

The death of Baldur, in not-quite-operatic format: Sundown.*

From the same song cycle, the Odin and Loki duet: My Brother, My Enemy.

I am hoping I will manage to write up the con-as-a-whole more thoroughly later; we'll see. I still haven't crashed yet, though, so I suspect that will be post-crash and post-revival-following.

I hope everyone had a good weekend and a happy Valentine's Day.

* If you know me offline, my casting in this piece should be both obvious and inevitable. Always nice not to have to do any costuming.

That concert was spectacular. I cannot wait to hear the whole song cycle.

What she said. Spectacular.

I suppose you already know how hard they are to whistle.

What do you mean, "not quite operatic"? Maybe the vocal performance was merely "extremely awesome a cappella" in a way that still doesn't add up to opera, but, considered as a composition, that was totally opera, and y'all totally nailed it.

It was great to see you and company. I'll be in touch about various things.

Well, Thrud insists she is not writing an opera because she has not got time to be writing an opera.

I am not sure I believe her.

I'm sure I don't believe that she is not writing an opera, because it sure sounds like an opera. Arguments against it being an opera might rest on its being short enough to fit on one CD and containing a filk of the alphabet song, but I think "Sundown" qualifies the work as an opera regardless of anything else.
