Back. Also, Yuletide reveal.
Jan. 4th, 2009 12:06 amAfter having read and then skimmed to skip=OMGLOTS on my LJ-list, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot possibly catch up and that if anything important happened since last Monday that it is a good thing I should know about, people might want to email me or give me a link or something.
Shall write up New Years, which was awesome, later on. Am probably not going to try to summarize 2008, except to say my day job was good, my love life was very good, my final grandparent died and my writing was indifferent, which averages out to a rather emotional but interesting year.
For the moment:
The Yuletide story I wrote which may be of general interest, possibly even to the not-fanfic-oriented: Kill Claudio. Part two. A sequel to Much Ado About Nothing, in Shakespearean language, formatted as a play. Suitable for general audiences, no warnings/pairings. I am astounded lightning did not strike me for my pretensions, and am fairly sure it didn't primarily because of the good offices of
nineweaving, who told me when my vocabulary was time-slipping. Honestly I am ridiculously pleased by how this came out, especially as my initial thought consisted entirely of 'whenever I see the name of this play I growl under my breath about how much I hate Claudio'.
Also, it turns out that if you write an intentionally bad Shakespearean song, and have everyone go on in-text about how bad it is, you don't actually have to write a good Shakespearean song. I'm just saying.
( ), Baccano!, a meditation on my favorite character. People familiar with the source seem to have liked this. I just liked the chance at getting into his head a little. And hey, no one got killed, which given the source is really rather peculiar.
untitled, Bound. A post-movie aperitif with no sad in it at all. Beyond question not only the most popular thing I wrote for Yuletide this year but also for Yuletide ever, which slightly confuses me. I mean, I couldn't think of a title for it. I do like it, though, it has a good rhythm. Also, this is as close as I have ever gotten to writing explicit sex in fanfiction, i.e. not very. My original fiction actually has quite a lot of sex, but fanfic-- it won't, mostly.
This was the first year I had more than one story up. I do not expect it to happen again.
All in all a pleasant experience, though, albeit a great deal of hair-tearing.

Date: 2009-01-06 01:17 am (UTC)But I am TOTALLY IN LOVE with Kill Claudio. Hero mouthing off! Beatrice as Benedick! Family interactions! So, so awesome.
