I love Donne, but at some point, with my nose embedded in a fusty old book about medieval European belief structures, I found out that he was wrong: the earth's four corners are physically factual, and just as much there as they ever were.

We stand at one of them tonight, the darkest and most hopeful. Turning toward the light.
