Liquid from Japan
Oct. 9th, 2007 03:04 pmIt was medium-sized, and had 'Fragile' and 'Liquid' stamped on it. "Hmmm," I thought. "Whatever this contains is going to be spectacular."
So I gathered the household together.
It was an official Neon Genesis Evangelion can of coffee. With Kaoru on it. He looks very happy.
"Oh, awesome!" Thrud said. "We can put that on the Kaoru shelf!"
We do, in fact, have an entire shelf of merchandise of Kaoru. Including the random figure of him as a girl with pigtails who is not wearing any pants. Thrud collects all Kaoru merchandise. At last count we have every poster of him ever made, plus I think eight or ten figures and various other random stuff.
So we went over to the Kaoru shelf, and Thrud took something down from the back. She smiled beatifically.
"It's different!" she said. "Cool!"
Evidently, some while back Thrud had spent some absurd amount of time or money or both on Japanese eBay and had bought an empty can of canned coffee with a picture of Kaoru on it. However, the can Rachel got us was a) full and b) a totally different picture.
Because Japan has more than one kind of Neon Genesis Evangelion coffee.
Every time I think I've gotten over being surprised by anything having to do with anime, something like this happens.
We are now trying to decide whether anyone actually wants to drink the Kaoru coffee. Thrud is absolutely delighted, because even she would not have suspected that it would be worth looking for multiple different cans of the stuff. And I am somewhere between amused and flabbergasted, which boils down to highly entertained.
Thank you muchly, Rachel.
