I finally got my computer up and running, as opposed to Ruth's computer. The problem is, my computer has almost no actual software left, as the hard drive was recently replaced (thank you Brenda!) and I don't have any startup CDs to install, say, word processing with. So my computer is functioning on an astonishingly low level, namely one where Wordpad is my only word processing and that's about the only thing that functions, and doesn't have a modem to get anything new. It has Ethernet, but that has to wait until fall. My computer does have, however, a floppy drive and a printer.

Ruth's computer does not have either a floppy drive or a printer. We think my printer might work with it, if we just keep fiddling, but she has to go buy a floppy drive. It (obviously) has a modem.

The problem, therefore, is how to retype the two stories I miraculously and thank all the gods found hardcopies of in my paperwork from my hard drive crash, back them up scrupulously on floppy disk, print them out and send them off to magazines while maintaining the proper formatting (double-spacing and all) which Wordpad does not have. Bearing in mind that I have no way to transfer files from one computer to the other since one lacks modem and the other disk drive.

I concluded it was impossible some time ago and have been hitting the return key a lot on my machine to fake double-spacing. Hoping editors don't care about things like the fact that my name at the top of each page and the page number will be hand-written. I think it's better to have to do this than to have good formatting and not be able to back stuff up on floppy.

Angst-O-Meter: 3. I have my stories my stories my stories damn this is frustrating.
