AARGH how do I embed an image from a Flickr account which is not mine into a DW/LJ entry I am using the HTML that the DW help page SAYS you should use to embed images and I am using the perma-URL I made Flickr cough up for the photo and it JUST WILL NOT POST do I need to make B. change his Flickr settings in some way AARGH

Is the link for sure ending in an image file type like .png or .jpg, etc.?

I recently had this same problem; I think something is broken in the dreamwidth code. It wouldn't let me embed embeddable images from anywhere, even though I was copying the code directly from their FAQ. I think it might have had something to do with automatic resizing; the way I finally got it to work was by generating a "share on facebook" code from Flickr and copying that over.

The way that code looked (I have replaced all triangle-looking brackets with square brackets so it will show, because I don't know another way to do that) was:

Clicking around Flickr: if I click the 'share' icon under the picture - an arrow emerging from a little square - sometimes I see an array of icons, but both times I've seen that, when I click the LJ icon, I get the message that the user has disabled sharing. But sometimes I get some html code to copy and paste (as I do when I copy one of my own images into my LJ).

If you get Flickr to give you a URL you can link to it, but if you actually want to embed the image, you need the embed code.

This much I know, but beyond this not so much. I'd suggest starting at the Flickr end rather than the DW end - but that the image may be protected to stop you doing this thing (either deliberately, or as an inadvertent result of some other setting chosen by the account holder).

Is the account in any way set to "private" or "restricted" or whatever the Flickr equivalent is (I don't use it)? I have never been able to link images from protected sites; sometimes they require downloading and reuploading somewhere else.

Can you get the flickr link to work on LJ? Whenever I need to embed something, I do it on LJ first, then go in as if to edit the entry, copy all the html, and then paste it into a DW entry and disable cross-posting so that it doesn't wind up double-posted on LJ.
