Some short lists about Otakon
Aug. 12th, 2003 11:10 amThings I bought: a Saiyuki clearfile, a Hikaru no Go clearfile, an Isumi plushie, a pack of Fruits Basket mini-pencil boards including that lovely pic of Shigure, Ayame and Hatori having tea, a single slightly larger Fruits Basket pencil board of Hatsuharu, a small original pic from the art room
Things I wanted to buy that they didn't bloody have: Sai plushie, any Scryed merchandise at all
Bruises: a fascinating three-inch wide compression pattern in a clearly defined band just above each knee, which is the fault of my poor excuses for garters; random contusions on the sides of my legs where the chains were banging; individual bobby pin marks on my scalp
Indecent proposals: one, from a Miroku, on the last day-- the classic in-character 'Miss, will you bear my child?'. Since I was in character at the time, I had to just blush and stutter, but I heard some fun answers from people around me; one random girl just said 'Yes', which provoked stunned silence from the Miroku, and I was fond of Magda's response, which was 'Again?'. I was also fond of what happened when Lirin was asked-- Kougaiji: 'HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT TO MY LITTLE SISTER!'. Snerk. Said Miroku was also the only one of the about six people who tried to grope me who actually asked; it was in character for Miroku to try and I appreciated the politeness, so I said sure. The other five were all in large crowds and two of them may actually have been accidental. The other three weren't. Next year I use the frickin' spear on that sort of person, I swear.
Anime watched: Char's Counterattack. No, really, that was it. Unless you count the five minutes of hentai into which I wandered, laughed until I had to sit down on the floor, and then had to leave before I started hyperventilating in sheer hysterical amusement. Man, that thing was awful. I also don't count the MAT3K, which was this appalling thing called Crusher Joe, and I don't count music videos.
Movie I fell madly in love with: Onmyouji, a live-action put out by Pioneer that is now on my list of best fantasy movies of all time ever. Wow. Amazing. SO amazing. Yay.
Contests I was involved with: We entered the hall costume contest as the cast of Saiyuki, and came in second in a division two higher than the one we'd actually entered. Yay. I didn't go to the Masquerade, since I was watching Onmyouji, so I didn't get to go across the stage, but who cares: we got a lot of free Otakon shirts. Happiness.
More about the con later when I recover somewhat.
