Hail to German, the only language in which the gender of the nouns not only matters as a general thing *but does stuff to the rest of the grammar*. Something is strange with a system in which the accusative is directly affected by the arbitrariness that is gender in language.

Still sewing away. Hopefully my gloves will be done Real Soon Now.

I've started buying Hikaru no Go gashapons. For those of you who may not know, a gashapon is a cool yet frustrating piece of merchandise, in that it comes in an opaque box, which contains one of any of a fairly large set of figures. Today I was crossing my fingers in hope and thinking "Isumi... Isumi... Isumi..." so of course I got Waya. Ada, the world being what it is, got Isumi. I do want the complete set, but I hope I don't get too many redundancies before I get there. If I do, I can pass some of them along to the BMC Hikaru no Go fans.

I'm curious -- could you give me an example of what you mean by the German? I'm semi-fluent in it, but I don't actually have to think about the grammer, so I don't. And then people make intriguing comments about the language and I'm left going, "uh... right...".

I went back to Kiddie Land last time i was in harakuku, and had a laughing firt in the store when I saw Hikaru no Go *gobans*. I mean it, I just cracked up.

...and then didn't look at the price, because I *so* didn't want to know.
