Diana Wynne Jones, 1934-2011

I would not have survived my childhood without her books.

I have no words.

No! Her books were amazing, and the Tough Guide to Fantasyland is, and will remain, my favorite sendup of the genre, ever. What a loss.

I didn't discover her until my 20s, but I'm so sad right now. She was older than my dad by a year, so it's not ridiculous for her to die, but dying is bullshit, man.

RIP. She is still one of my favorite authors ever.

This news made me remember your essay on Fire and Hemlock, as well as the one over at Red Hen.

That's in addition to making me feel very sad. I just got Purimgifts fic based on Deep Secret last week.

Much love and sorrow.

I first read The Homeward Bounders, when I was about 10. I was so struck by it, I didn't read anything else of hers for at least 10 years, because I was so afraid they'd either all be like that, or they'd all be different.

(Different, in different ways, thanks be.)

This is just too damn soon.

Oh, dear. May the memory of the nifty be for wonder.
