While proofing Thrud's diss I found-- well, my initial impulse was to say 'a typo no one else would have committed', except that I can think of at least five people of my acquaintance who might, including me, [livejournal.com profile] seishonagon, [livejournal.com profile] lignota, [livejournal.com profile] angstnokami, and [livejournal.com profile] sovay.

She spelled 'Augustus' as 'Avgvstvs'.

The really amazing thing was that in this particular instance it was the name of a sixteenth-century German editor and had no classical connections whatever.

Why yes I totally have done that before would do that.

I can see that happening in Thrud's writing, either accidentally or on purpose.

That's awesome.

I do that sometimes with Russian. It was an occupational hazard to look at my geology lecture notes after going to Russian class and find that the first three or four sentences were routinely in Cyrillic.

I lapse in and out of Latin sentence structure, which sometimes actually helps my English clarity, so I haven't tried to weed it out.
