Apparently my house no longer has TV service-- I might have been vaguely upset about not having been told about that except that given how often I try to watch TV this could literally have happened years ago without my noticing.

Everyone else who lives here either has a job that will be devoting space to televising the presidential inauguration tomorrow, or wasn't going to watch it anyway.

As I have not watched any live news on the internet in, oh, ever, I have no idea what sites will be reliably streaming coverage, or how to find that out. I poked at CNN, but it didn't say anywhere I could find.

I could go to the bar down the street, but I'm not actually sure they open early enough.

Advice? Reliable websites or locations of public TV showings would make me very, very happy.

www.hulu.com claims they will be streaming the inauguration live. I've never used them for live TV, but I do watch streaming TV on there very frequently, and like the site a lot.

I'd be shocked if c-span.org doesn't cover it. And almost as suprised if cnn.com doesn't, even if they're not telling you about it now.

Watching it through bbc.co.uk would amuse me, and maybe you too. (I'll probably be giving a presentation to a bunch of Scots at the time, which also amuses me.)

Looks like the BPL is holding a public broadcast of the inauguration from 10am to 5pm at their Copley Square branch. I'll be watching at home until I have to go to work at 1. Sadly, my branch does not have the means to show the inauguration to the public.

A quick google earlier got me a list of networks, including NBC and CNN, that are going to be streaming it live. Also the NY Times.

When I started to type "inauguration" into the google search bar on firefox, it suggested inauguration 2009, and those were at the second or third hit. There are several sites created for the inauguration. (I don't think my job is going to be devoting space to the broadcast, because thinking about the office layout, I don't think they can, without risking crowding more people into a room than would be safe, and most of them not being able to see. That assumes the presence of a television, which is possible but I haven't seen.)

I believe the boy said change.gov will be streaming it live. Neither of us will be home and will be watching it (there I think) when we get home.

(if I have that link wrong, I'll let you know when the boy gets home. Right now I'm lucky I can get this computer to access the web at all.)

gallian.

Yeah, CNN's done a good job on all that stuff so far.

If you would like company, I'd be happy to join you. They're bringing in a television at work, but knowing the size of the room and the number invited, this looks to be overcrowded.

I think I'm going to go to Harvard Bookstore, who are apparently showing it with seating. You would be welcome to join me there, if you like. I am turning up about 11.

I'd like that. Pleasant company. May I take you to lunch afterward?

If it would not be keeping you away from your work too long, that would be lovely.

If you want public showings:

Also, Starbase has a TV. I assume it gets reception, though I have never tested this personally. I'm not planning to watch the inauguration myself, but if you want to come over here, I'll make you tea or hot cocoa . . .

Thank you for the invite! I think I am going to go to the Harvard Bookstore, though, as I feel like being in a celebratory mob.

It looks as though the BBC will stream the inauguration; I consider them reliable.

When I had to watch convention stuff at work, cnn.com had it live on their main page.

You need a TV converter box. It snuck up on us, too.

Actually, the digital conversion doesn't happen until next month, and they're talking about delaying it.

One of the two cable companies in this area made a decision to switch over early. We found our cable cut off on December 19th when we went to watch TV. It had been off since the 15th and we hadn't realized it since the official websites were saying that the switchover was later. I think that the Congery uses that cable company.
