It is never pleasant to find a spider on my arm. However, to find a spider on my arm while reading Tolkien, as happened earlier, is not simply unpleasant; it is unpleasant with overtones of significant irony on the part of the universe.

in other news Fox has pinkeye and so does Ruth and all three of us have the flu and in Ruth this has also turned into a double ear infection, my only goal in life is now avoiding pinkeye, the cat had to go to the vet today to see if he is going to drop dead suddenly of kidney failure (we... don't think so? bloodwork pending, maybe just a UTI), I hope we have not given the vet pinkeye, Ursula Le Guin is still dead, and everything is terrible
