This has provided me with a great deal of stress relief over the last couple of days; I stumbled across it from something that was linked to Khava's site. It's a blog in which a woman who is a student at Berkeley writes down and posts the weird, humorous, insane, or inexplicable things she overhears other people saying around her. Some of them are really impressive. I was particularly fond of the cell phone conversation in which she heard a woman say: "You'll never guess who I married last night! Howard!... Of course you know Howard... Howard's your roommate... Well, fine, be like that then." I don't want to know, yet somehow, I do. Ruthelie, this might distract you from your cold...

Parsing this as "the caller got married to Howard" is so freakishly bizarre -- the caller's friend/Howard's roommate has no idea the caller and Howard were likely to get married?! -- that I came up with an alternate, slightly less freakishly bizarre parsing: that the caller is a priest/civil servant who conducts marriages, and Howard came in and got married *by* the caller last night. Only marginally more comprehensible, though. . . .
