Drabble for Homasse

Well, double-drabble, actually. I'm going to do all the ones on the list (and more if people request them), but not in the request order and interspersed with other entries so the non-fanfic readers won't get screamingly bored.
Purchase
“I hear that you sell love and dreams.”
The shop door had not opened when he came in. The incense that coiled and eddied around the doorframes and screens maintained a careful distance from the perfection of his robes.
The shop’s proprietor was mashing something small and bloody into a hopper set into the wall. Peculiar whispers were insinuating themselves through the soundproofing.
Eyes met briefly. “You, sir, do not need to buy the quality of dream we have on display.”
“I was,” the magician replied, “thinking more along the lines of love.”
There was a silver flash through the wall slit, a shudder of wings in the gloaming, and the unsteady whispering ceased. Unconcerned, the proprietor raised a fingertip and let white grace brush it.
“Love is inconstant. We will sell you constancy. Love is disloyal. We will sell you loyalty.”
“And the price?”
“We ask only that you never speak a word of truth to it.”
The magician spread his own palm, and cupped what landed in it, at one and the same time tracing an antenna and taking a pale hand. “It is very beautiful. And the species?”
“It is,” the Count said softly, “a luna moth.”

Date: 2005-05-06 10:03 pm (UTC)...which is how the next ten pages of that chapter got edited. XDDD
Oh, and? The Count's condition *rocked all*. Also, I really need to actually read Petshop of Horrors, since I've only seen the OAVs and read lots of spoilerific fanfic. XD What publisher puts it out in Japan?

Date: 2005-05-06 10:13 pm (UTC)You totally need to read Petshop; it's one of my favorite manga ever and the only one I've ever cared about enough to try to translate before it was available in English in scanslation. The Japanese publisher is Missy Comics, and you can find it pretty easily at amazon.jp. Also, you're in a position to be able to get hold of the first volume of Shin Petshop of Horrors, the sequel series which just started coming out, and I envy you madly for this.

Date: 2005-05-06 10:18 pm (UTC)And I'll look for Petshop and Shin Petshop when I go to Tokyo next (prolly next weekend, actually)--is it considered shoujo or shounen, since Animate keeps them on different floors. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I might just go to Takasaki tomorrow so I get out of the house, and there's an Animate there. w00t.

Date: 2005-05-06 10:26 pm (UTC)It's shoujo. Oh, is it shoujo. It's so shoujo that it has been brought up in every defining-shoujo conversation I've heard in the past two years.
It's also technically shounen-ai, but in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it-don't-blink-you-might-still-miss-it sort of a way. Still, I've known people to shelve it under that.
