What goes on with me?

Well, right now I have covid, after dodging it for more than three years. It's been slightly more than a week, and I am not having any fun. I did go through a course of Paxlovid, which was incredibly helpful, but I am getting rebound now that it's finished. Luckily, my senses of smell and taste, about which I was incredibly worried, are both completely fine. This was a mixed blessing in the case of the Paxlovid, which tasted just as bad as everybody claims.

As far as I can tell, I picked it up while doing necessary errands-- while masked. Sigh. And I was very lucky, given the timing, that I didn't pass it on to some visiting out-of-town friends, but I appear not to have given it to anyone, even [personal profile] nineweaving, who is basically my roommate, so that's extremely lucky too.

Honestly, this is all going absolutely as well as it can, considering how terrible I feel. I feel better than the time I had meningitis or the time I got hit by a car. I feel worse than the time I had norovirus or the two times I've had a single migraine last for more than a year. So, firmly on 'lifetime medical event' list but not, actually, the worst medical thing that's ever happened to me.

If anyone has any recs for easy browser games that don't require much brain or reflexes, that would be awesome. I am at a point where if I conserve my energy for a long while, I can sometimes manage to watch an episode of (a fluffy) anime. Reading is right out. I am spending a lot of time doing phone (touchscreen) color-by-number, but that gets rather boring; it's just the level I happen to be able to work on right now. Alternatives would be nice.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. I am seeing this basic situation play out way too much recently. I too have dodged COVID thus far, but frankly I expect to get it at a medical appointment.

I am a blank slate as far as games are concerned, but I hope somebody with knowledge will come along soon.

I hope the arc of your recovery stays as good as it can; meanwhile, sympathy for the current part.

https://dr-d-king.itch.io/tri-to-hex-it is a simple game of sliding triangles to create colored hexagons: I suspect whether it's easy or not depends on how easily one thinks in hexagons.

https://www.konkr.io/ is a game of capturing territory on small islands: conquest mode on the low difficulty setting will make endless little random maps.

You are being incredibly brave. I am so glad that your smell and taste are uncompromised. And I can't understand how I dodged this, but I'm awfully grateful.

Afraid I'm not much help with games. I have some that I keep for Fox, but all I play myself are Solitaire and MahJong. I used to have a pretty good jigsaw puzzle app, but that's been superseded by actual wood puzzles.

Love,

Nine

Ahhh FUCK. Yeah, we just got hit this February and got long covid to boot -- after three years of rigorous masking, including scouring hardware stores for N-95s and so on. I can pinpoint when I got it because I have agoraphobia and the ONE place I went in February was to the low-cost vet for our cat -- she got a lymphoma diagnosis (which was wrong, she's in heart failure) and I got very upset and lifted my mask for maybe fifteen seconds because I was afraid getting it wet (I was crying really hard) would damage it and T said PUT IT BACK ON and we went outside. He didn't take his mask off the whole visit. But we were in a very small, unventilated exam room, absolutely nobody was wearing masks, and it pounced.

the two times I've had a single migraine last for more than a year

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH (that could be someone's villain origin story! aghghg)

....yeah, I felt horrible, but not as sick as I've ever been It was def NOT like a bad case of the flu, tho. The long covid has been a lot worse in terms of shortness of breath, exercise intolerance, extreme fatigue, sleepiness, &c &c. I'm really glad you have Paxlovid! (They wouldn't let me take it because I'm on Sertraline) Even when I was newly infected there were times when I was lying on the bed and wanted to get up and it took this really conscious gathering of energy and my body just did not want to move.

Waugh. Sympathies.

I'm currently playing hole in iogames; it's basically like Katamari Damacy, only with a hole instead of a ball, and with other players (but you can ignore them if that's your jam).

Also, https://powerline.io/ is a snake game. (It's currently down, but I assume it's a server issue; that's happened before.) When I need to zone, this is my Current Thing.

So sorry you are down with Covid. I hope you feel better very soon.

My go-to browser games, which are selected for being extremely chill and untimed, are Fishdom and Cats & Soup.

sympathies. (I'm afraid when I want something extremely low attention (like listening to a complicated podcast) I play solitaire, so I have no useful recs)

It’s not a browser game, but rather an app… but I highly recommend Two Dots as my preferred zone-out game, if you happen to have access to that.

WordMaster, a free off-brand of Wordle

The main browser-based game I play these days is WordMaster, a knockoff of Wordle. It is completely free: no login, no ads, no nothing.

It gives you as many games as you want in a day, no timer, no pressure.

https://octokatherine.github.io/word-master/

Works fine on phone or computer.

I'm sorry you're ill. It's very frustrating to do everything and then...oof.

For games, the BBC seems still to have the Hitchhiker's Guide game up:

Ugh, I am so sorry. (So far I'm the only one in the household to have gotten it, last year. I'm still feeling the aftereffects.)

My go-to for mindless browser games is https://gamesnacks.com/ -- all free, all add-free, and many of them are very simple indeed. Wide range of types of games to choose from, though.

this is all going absolutely as well as it can

Glad of that, despite the definitely not-great aspects. Hope things improve swiftly.

On days when I Love Hue Too is too much for me, Real Jigsaw is sometimes okay; there's a slider for how many pieces, and it's possible to toggle off the visible timer at least on Android, which I use. It's rather venerable as phone apps go, and thus relatively streamlined and non-grabby, IMO. (I did color-by-number for a while, too, and then my brain began critiquing the art.) ETA arrgh, you asked for browser games--Real Jigsaw is for phones.

I have no game rec to offer, but having had COVID, I say: take it very, very, VERY easy. Be as slow and low-effort in your recovery time as you can possibly afford (I realize that adults can't always do that). Long COVID is most definitely a thing.

I was as lazy as I could be - and I had a fairly gentle case - and nine months later my energy levels and memory are still not up to pre-infection levels. They are climbing back up, but at slug paces. Give your body every chance that you can to recover and heal.

(I probably got it the same way, which is infuriating.)

You tried as hard as you could
