I should read Perelandra again. If I could un-read That Hideous Strength so that I could like the first two again I would.

My imaginary arguments about this with Lewis, and Chesterton etc, tended to go "Behold, I am female, ergo you have to redefine your definition." In my imagination they would say "Oh, good point! Well then!" But in my experience of having this argument with lesser men of this opinion in real life they inevitably respond "Oh, we didn't mean you! We will make an exception for you. We will make our own category, so that we have men, women and Jo. You're not like those other women, who, I'm sure you'll agree, are..." To which I grab them gently by the throat and say "You're not listening. I am female, ergo, you must redefine." This is in fact why I am so attached to defining my gender (which doesn't naturally cross my mind once in a month of Sundays) as female.
