Another vote here for the idea of blood libel in Lovecraft as interesting, though I can't think of a specific instance myself (as opposed to his all-pervasive creepiness).
But it did make me realise that 'The Colour Out of Space' is an absolutely classic instance of a well-poisoning story, yeech.
