After a long stall of confusion in the middle of the fourth sonnet, my present WIP goes on apace. The protagonist has a gender, a secondary character has happened who is not one of the protagonist's parental figures, some very shiny images have been produced, and I have retired for the day in triumph.

Of course, the whole difficulty with this project is that after I've got through all ten sonnets, I will have preliminary notes toward an outline, which meaning that each sonnet is about two hours work... But it's going to be one sweet outline.

This book is doing funny things to my brain, linguistically. For example: the word 'marrow' turned up, which is a recurring word, so I went to see what I'd decided the marrow was previously to maintain some form of internal consistency. I discovered that I had noted that marrow can be the matter in the middle of the bone, or a vegetable, or a spouse, and that as a verb it could mean being in love such that the heart literally seems as though it will melt, either from intensity or from the whole thing's being a bad idea. (Yay OED.) And the last meaning seemed to work, so I jotted down the following, without thinking too much on't: 'Marrow: a phallus squashed'.

And then I seriously considered hitting myself over the head with a brick for the good of humanity.

Ah, it is good to be writing again. I wish the spells when I'm horribly stuck weren't quite so frequent.
